Requiem of Reuinis Research Guide
Complete research guide for Requiem of Reuinis — upgrade trees, material costs, priority unlock order, and how research interacts with alchemy and routing.
What research does
Research is the permanent progression system in Requiem of Reuinis. Every research node you unlock persists across retreats, boss deaths, and region transitions — it is the one investment Tasia never loses. Research nodes increase base stats (HP, ATK, DEF), unlock new skills, reduce alchemy material costs, and open shortcut doors that change optimal routes through the tower.
You spend research materials — distinct from alchemy herbs — at the research tree accessible from camp or at research stations in the dungeon. The Research Lens accessory slightly reduces material costs per node, making it valuable for players who research frequently. The demo contains enough research depth for four to six full retreat cycles before you exhaust the most impactful nodes.
Research tree overview
The research tree splits into three branches: Combat, Survival, and Utility. Combat nodes increase ATK and unlock offensive skills like Alchemy Burst. Survival nodes boost HP and DEF and unlock Guard improvements. Utility nodes reduce alchemy costs, extend day limits, and unlock shortcut keys that bypass entire floor sections.
Nodes require prerequisite unlocks — you cannot skip to late-tree skills without investing in early nodes first. Plan your path before spending materials. A common error is spreading research evenly across all three branches, which leaves Tasia mediocre everywhere instead of strong somewhere. Pick a focus aligned with your build: Combat for aggressive routing, Survival for boss rushes, Utility for alchemy-heavy strategies.
- Combat branch — ATK upgrades, Alchemy Burst, offensive skill enhancements
- Survival branch — HP/DEF upgrades, Guard improvements, damage reduction passives
- Utility branch — alchemy cost reduction, bonus camp days, shortcut unlocks
Priority unlock order for the demo
First retreat: unlock basic ATK +1 and HP +1 in the Combat and Survival branches. These two nodes cost the least and make every subsequent fight and exploration day more efficient. Second retreat: push Combat ATK to +2 and unlock the improved Guard node in Survival. Third retreat: invest in Utility alchemy cost reduction if you craft frequently, or continue Combat ATK if you route aggressively.
Before the Forgotten Ruins bosses, aim for ATK +3, DEF +2, and at least one Utility shortcut node that opens a bypass path in the Ruins. Before the Deep Sanctum, unlock Alchemy Burst in Combat and the first state-interaction node in Utility — state mechanics dominate the final region. The Route Planning Guide identifies which shortcut nodes matter most for each region.
Research materials and farming
Research Notes are the primary material, found in chests throughout the Forgotten Ruins and as guaranteed drops from mid-tier bosses. Unlike alchemy herbs, research materials cannot be farmed from common enemies efficiently — they come from exploration milestones and boss rewards. This means research speed is tied to how deeply you explore, not how many slimes you kill.
Research Notes in the Cave Entrance are limited, so do not expect to max the tree in region one. The Forgotten Ruins provides the bulk of demo research materials, and the Deep Sanctum offers the final batch needed for late-tree nodes. If you feel research-starved, check the Forgotten Ruins Walkthrough for chest locations you may have missed on earlier passes.
Research versus alchemy spending
Research and alchemy compete for the same camp days but use different materials. Ideally, you gather enough of both material types during exploration to spend every camp day productively. When materials force a choice, prioritize research if you are more than one retreat away from a boss, and prioritize alchemy if the boss is one push away.
Research pays compound returns — ATK +1 today makes every fight for the rest of the demo easier. Alchemy pays immediate returns — a healing potion saves a boss attempt right now. The Alchemy Guide covers the crafting side; together, both guides help you balance the Explore-Alchemize-Research loop that defines Requiem of Reuinis.
Late-demo research and state skills
The Deep Sanctum introduces state-based skills that depend on Utility branch research. Dream State — a stationary turret mode — requires a mid-tier Utility unlock. Token Forge — which previews derivative skill forms — sits deeper in the Combat branch. These skills define the State Burst build and are nearly mandatory for the Demo Final Guardian encounter.
If you reach the Deep Sanctum without state skills unlocked, expect to spend two or three extra retreat cycles on research before attempting the final bosses. Check the Tokens & States Guide for how research unlocks interact with equipment like Golden Triumph and Dream Anchor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does research reset when I retreat?
No. All unlocked research nodes persist permanently across retreats, region changes, and boss attempts for the lifetime of your save.
What is the most important early research node?
Combat ATK +1. It has the lowest cost, no prerequisites beyond the tree root, and improves every fight immediately.
How many research nodes are in the demo?
The demo research tree contains enough nodes for four to six retreat cycles of meaningful upgrades, covering all three branches without fully maxing every path.
Can I respec research choices?
No. Research unlocks are permanent. Plan your branch focus before spending rare Research Notes on mid-tier nodes.
Does the Research Lens accessory stack with Utility branch cost reduction?
Yes. The Research Lens reduces per-node material cost while Utility branch nodes reduce base costs — together they make late-tree unlocks significantly cheaper.
When should I start the Utility branch?
After your second retreat, or sooner if you rely heavily on alchemy. The alchemy cost reduction node in Utility pays for itself within one crafting cycle.
